How to Build Credit Fast - Part 3

You can build – or rebuild – your credit fast by following a few simple steps.

Investigate Receiving Credit for Your Rent Payments
This technique is the last on my list because you shouldn't rely solely on it to establish credit quickly. Look into this if you pay rent. Use this strategy in conjunction to one of the other credit-building advices above, as the value is unexpected.

Rent may appear on your credit report, but that does not guarantee that it will be taken into account when your credit score is determined. Yet, there may still be utility. If a lender is analyzing your credit report, your excellent rental payment history will at least be seen.

Rent payments made by you cannot be reported to a credit bureau. Ask your landlord if a rent-reporting service, such as Experian RentBureau or PayYourRent, receives a report of your payments.

There are numerous businesses that will inform the bureaus of your rent payments. See what your monthly cost will be to find out how much it will cost depending on whether your landlord participates.

Correct errors in credit reports

Errors on credit reports do occur, and depending on the error, they may lower your credit score. At the outset of your credit-score trip, it's a good idea to check your credit reports from the three major bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. At AnnualCreditReport.com, you have free access to your reports.

Make careful to review both your personal information, such as your Social Security number, and account information. If you have a negative item, such as a collection account, check the date and the amount. The majority of bad things remain on your report for seven years. Make sure the data is correct and that it is removed from your report once the mandatory reporting period has passed.
If you discover a mistake, take immediate action to dispute the error with the credit bureaus.
