What Is Considered a Good Credit Score? Play With Timing

Here's your chance to "game" the system, if that's what you want to do. Your credit score changes every time new information is added to your credit file by your lenders and sent to the credit bureaus. This happens once a month.

Find out when your credit card company tells the credit bureaus about your account. If you owe more than usual on your credit card, make two payments in one month. This will keep your reported balance low, which will keep your ratio from being too high.

Keep a mix of credit cards.

I'm not saying you should go out and get an installment loan to improve your credit score, but having a variety of credit does help a little. For example, if you have credit cards (revolving accounts) and a personal loan (installment account), that's better for your score than just having a few revolving credit card accounts.

But here's a word of warning: You want to move up into the exceptional range to get the best rates, but try not to focus too much on the number. Don't look at it every day or you'll go crazy. Just do what's been said, and your score will take care of itself.
